Atiku has urged Jonathan to intervene and solve disputes between him and G-5 governors.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has reached out to the Former President Of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan to serve as a Mediator between him and other governors in the party.
According to reports, Atiku was looking for PDP figures to step in and resolve the ongoing conflict. Additionally, it had been mentioned that Jonathan may be asked to take the lead.
This online media platform learnt Jonathan’s home was the location of a private meeting held to discuss the issue.
According to party insiders, the dialogue between Jonathan and the PDP presidential candidate was part of the latter’s repeated attempts to find a solution to the deadlock he and the G-5 governors were in.
These governors, includes Governors Nyesom Wike, Rivers; Samuel Ortom, Benue; Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Enugu; Okezie Ikpeazu, Abia and Seyi Makinde Oyo
According to a PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) member who also happens to be the national chairman’s friend, Atiku asked Jonathan for assistance at the meeting for both his presidential run and for the party’s problems to be resolved.
In order for the opposition party to enter the election with a unified front, the source expressed confidence that the former President would be able to assist in mediating peace for the quarrelling PDP leaders.
Ayu’s replacement with a Southerner was a need for reconciliation, thus the resentful governors and their supporters withdrew from the PDP presidential campaign council lately.
Although the G-5 is willing to have a reunion with the party, a source close to one of the disgruntled governors told Saturday Sun that the scenario regarding the peace effort is “motion without movement.”
Atiku’s efforts to enlist Jonathan’s help are motivated by his connections to the disgruntled governors, notably Wike of Rivers State and Ortom of Bauchi State, both of whom served as ministers under Jonathan.
