EKO HOT BLOG reports that the strategic session, held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, is part of ongoing consultations aimed at finalising plans for a broad opposition coalition to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
In addition to Atiku and Lamido, the meeting was attended by several PDP heavyweights, including former PDP National Chairman Prince Uche Secondus, former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, ex-Cross River Governor Liyel Imoke, former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu, and ex-Ebonyi State Governor Sam Egwu.
Sources at the meeting venue confirmed that deliberations, presided over by David Mark, focused on whether PDP leaders would fully integrate into the proposed coalition party or remain within the PDP while entering into a strategic electoral alliance.
This follows an earlier report by Sunday PUNCH that the opposition coalition has selected the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its preferred political platform and chosen Senator Mark to serve as interim national chairman. The coalition’s official unveiling is expected to take place on Wednesday.
Also present at the Abuja meeting were Senator Ben Obi, former PDP National Women Leader Josephine Anenih, former National Organising Secretary Senator Austin Akobundu, ex-National Publicity Secretary Kola Ologbondiyan, and former National Youth Leader Abdullahi Maibasira, among other party chieftains.
The high-level consultations are aimed at building a formidable opposition structure to present a united front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next election cycle.
Further details are expected to emerge after the conclusion of the meeting.
