EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to announce the final results of the gubernatorial election in Delta State, as results from 12 Local Government Areas (LGAs) trickle into the collation centre.
According to the latest results, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is leading with a significant margin. In Ika South LGA, the PDP secured 15,883 votes, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Labour Party (LP) secured 6,790 and 4,495 votes, respectively.
Similar results were reported in other LGAs, including Patani, Aniocha North, Ndokwa East, Udu, Sapele, Aniocha South, Uvwie, Okpe, and Bomadi.
However, there were reports of electoral malpractice in some polling units. For instance, in Ward 9, there were allegations of over-voting, and the APC submitted a petition to INEC. In Sapele LGA, the APC agent also submitted a petition, rejecting the results from Ward 5 and accusing the Returning Officer of presenting results that were cancelled at polling units due to over-voting and violence allegedly sponsored by the PDP. Five polling units were cancelled as a result of over-voting.
Furthermore, there were reports of violence and obstruction of voting in some LGAs. In Aniocha South LGA, thugs reportedly invaded Ward 3, Unit 4, carted away election materials, and injured a party agent. In Ndokwa East LGA, there were reports of snatching of ballot papers and obstruction of voting.
Despite the reported cases of malpractice and violence, the collation of results has been ongoing, and INEC is expected to announce the final results soon. It remains to be seen if the PDP will maintain its lead and emerge victorious in the Delta State gubernatorial election.
