PDP Needs Wike, Makinde, Others To Win In 2023 – Nnamani

Nnamani says the PDP needs Wike, Makinde, and three other governors to win in 2023.

Eko Hot Blog reports that a former governor of Enugu State and Senator representing Enugu East senatorial district, Chimaroke Nnamani, has said the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) needs Governor Nyesome Wike of Rivers State and his allies to win the 2023 presidential election.

Wike’s allies include his fellow governors such as Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, and Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State.

The governors have been at loggerheads with the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, whom they have asked to resign. They argue that it’s unfair that a northerner leads the party and another is the presidential candidate (Atiku Abubakar).

They were conspicuously absent at the presidential campaign of the PDP which was flagged off in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, on Monday, with observers connecting their absence to Ayu’s continued stay in office.

In a statement Nnamani personally signed on Tuesday, he condemned the PDP leadership for treating the five governors poorly.

According to him, the party’s hierarchy should have done more in a give-and-take manner to carry the aggrieved party faithful along.

“Today, I go on record in total condemnation of the treatment of the five governors mostly from the southern states within the PDP. The Governors are our leaders and their humiliation rubs off on all of us,” the former Enugu governor said.

Nnamani, therefore, cautioned against erecting parallel structures in the five governors’ states, stressing that “politics is local and the folks from these affected states parading with the PDP leadership will not deliver their polling booths without the governors.”

He pointedly stated that “feel-good political operatives” cannot deliver like the governors.

“Without the involvement of the governors that are our leaders, these mere cheerleaders and feel-good political operatives cannot deliver,” the lawmaker said.
