The Senate caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed full support for the party to spearhead a coalition of opposition forces ahead of the 2027 general elections. This was revealed on Tuesday by Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, who spoke to journalists in Abuja.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to Senator Moro, the PDP remains the largest and most structured opposition party in Nigeria and is well-positioned to lead any alliance aimed at unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“As the biggest opposition party, the PDP is robust enough to accommodate all parties interested in forming a coalition. We are a renewed and vibrant party present in every corner of the country, and we are not averse to working with others to strengthen democratic values,” he said. “The PDP should drive the coalition if and when it becomes necessary.”

The planned coalition, he explained, is primarily geared toward building a formidable political front to challenge President Bola Tinubu and the APC in the 2027 elections.

Addressing concerns about recent internal wrangling and defections within the PDP, Moro dismissed speculation that the party is on the brink of collapse. He insisted that despite the challenges, the PDP remains resilient and united.

He also reassured party faithful and Nigerians that steps are being taken to resolve internal disputes, citing the efforts of the reconciliation committee led by former Senate President Bukola Saraki.

“We are addressing the few contradictions that exist at the national level,” Moro noted, adding that such issues are common in all political organisations.

He further cautioned against the threat of Nigeria sliding into a one-party state, stressing that such a development would be detrimental to the country’s democracy.
