EKO HOT BLOG reports that reacting to recent comments by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, who predicted the PDP would cease to exist by next year, Onyereri said such declarations are not only false but a misreading of political realities.
Speaking to Vanguard, Onyereri said, “As the Bible says, once the foundation is strong, what can you build against it? The truth is, the PDP has a very strong foundation. Nothing can shake it. It was established on solid ground, and there is nothing that can undermine it.”
He likened the party’s internal turbulence and recent defections to a process of spiritual and political pruning necessary for renewal and long-term growth.
“From what you see today, the array of personalities still within the PDP indicates that we are merely going through a phase of pruning. Just as seasonal pruning is necessary to yield a greater harvest, it is often a challenging process. That is precisely what we are experiencing now,” he stated.
Onyereri played down the significance of recent high-profile defections from the PDP to the APC, insisting that those who left had fulfilled their political missions and the party remains strong with committed loyalists.
He further anchored his optimism in scripture, referencing the faith of Jesus Christ during periods of abandonment, noting that even betrayal and desertion did not stop His mission.
“I recall a relevant biblical example: even Christ Himself, at a critical moment, saw some of His disciples leave when He spoke about drinking His blood. The Bible tells us that some abandoned Him, but He did not halt His ministry. He pressed on. Similarly, this is what will happen with the PDP,” he said.

Onyereri reaffirmed the PDP’s resilience, describing current setbacks as temporary. He expressed confidence that the party would rebound in the coming political cycle and play a leading role in shaping Nigeria’s future.
