Eko Hot Blog reports that the presidency has said Nigeria’s United Nations (UN) permanent representatives in New York and Geneva have been exempted from the recall of ambassadors.
Recall that earlier on Saturday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, announced that President Bola Tinubu had directed the recall of all career and non-career ambassadors serving in different countries.
The announcement came barely 24 hours after a letter recalling Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom (UK), Sarafa Isola, surfaced.
However, in a statement on Saturday evening, the presidential spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, said the UN representatives are not affected by the decision.
He explained that the exemption of the representatives is due to the forthcoming UN general assembly.
“The president’s directive is sequel to his careful study of the present state of affairs at Nigerian Consulate Offices and Embassies worldwide, and in line with the president’s renewed hope agenda,” the statement reads.
“The president is determined to ensure that world-class efficiency and quality, will henceforth, characterise foreign and domestic service delivery to citizens, residents and prospective visitors alike.”
Ngelale said the recall of the ambassadors takes immediate effect.
