Persons With Disabilities Makes Case For Recruitment In Elections

Persons With Disabilities, PWDs, yesterday, asked the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to recruit its members as ad hoc staff in future polls, saying they deserved to play active role in the country’s electioneering processes.

 

The disabled persons, speaking on the platform of Inclusive Friends Association, IFA, and Convener, Access Nigeria campaign, argued that such placements will enable them to cater for needs of their colleagues with various challenges on election day.

 

They said INEC can start the recruitment and training as INEC ad hoc staff for the governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa states, expected to take place in November and December.

 

The disabled persons, who made the plea in Abuja during the review session of their participation and inclusion in the just-concluded general election, noted that they deserved to work with INEC in the future elections so as to give their over 27 million members a sense of belonging. 

 

Addressing newsmen, Executive Director, IFA, and Convener, Access Nigeria Campaign, Mrs. Grace Jerry, noted that the people with disabilities desire to be encouraged and fully contribute in all aspect of future elections in the country.

 

The Access Nigeria Campaign and IFA with the support of the National Democratic Institute, NDI, USAID and UKAID, have being working in collaboration to ensure every Nigerian with disability have access to the polling units and cast his or her vote during elections
