EKO HOT BLOG reports that armed men reportedly opened fire at the property, damaging the main gate and several vehicles parked within the compound.
Obi later appeared in a video following the attack and expressed concern over the state of the nation’s democracy. He said it was alarming that such violence could take place at the residence of a former governor and senior political figure.
According to him, Nigeria should not be a country where citizens live in fear, particularly during lawful political engagements.
He said, “This is where our democracy has reached. A former governor, and you can see what happened in front of his house, where hoodlums came shooting.
“I assure you this cannot continue; we have a country, and we are a part of it. We cannot have terrorism and have officials in government terrorising the citizens.”
The attack occurred shortly after Obi, Odigie-Oyegun and other political stakeholders attended the formal declaration of Barrister Olumide Akpata into the African Democratic Congress in Benin City.
The event attracted party members and supporters before the delegation proceeded to Odigie-Oyegun’s residence.
Videos circulating after the incident showed bullet holes on the estate gate and visible damage to vehicles inside the compound.

The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, alleged that the attackers trailed the political leaders from the ADC secretariat to the residence before carrying out the shooting.
He said the gunmen targeted the entrance and vehicles in what he described as an attempt to harm those inside.
