In an interview with Arise TV on Friday, Obi commended the players for their outstanding performance, stating that their success has been his inspiration for being present in Ivory Coast to witness the match.
While expressing his support, Obi emphasized the need for increased investment in sports to foster development and ensure continued success on the global stage.
“The country needs to do more to have more stars, but what they have done so far is commendable. They have all my prayers and support, and all my prayers are for their success and the country because their success is the success of the country,” said Obi during the interview.
Highlighting the significance of sports in national development, Obi underscored the critical role of investing in sports for the overall progress of the nation.
Drawing parallels with countries like Brazil that have effectively utilized sports for development, he emphasized the need for comprehensive investment, covering areas such as health, education, poverty alleviation, and, notably, sports.
“We can do a lot with sport. Congratulations to Nigeria; they’ve done very well, and that is the reason why I’m here like every other ordinary Nigerian. We need to do more,” Obi concluded.
