EKO HOT BLOG reports that Photos that surfaced online showed the three Nigerian figures exchanging warm pleasantries at the event. In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, offered insight into their light-hearted interaction.
According to Onanuga, Fayemi spotted President Tinubu seated among other world leaders and invited Peter Obi to accompany him in greeting the Nigerian president. Obi obliged, and the two approached Tinubu together.
Breaking the ice, Fayemi jokingly said to Tinubu, “Mr. President, welcome to our church, and thank you for honouring the Pope with your presence.”
President Tinubu, known for his quick wit, replied, “I should be the one welcoming you and Peter. I’m the Head of the Nigerian Delegation.”
The comment drew laughter from Obi, who responded in agreement, “Yes, indeed. We are members of your delegation.”
Both Obi and Fayemi, devout Catholics and Papal Knights, were attending in honour of the new pontiff’s installation.
