Peter Obi: Obasanjo’s Endorsement Unlawful, Unnecessary – NNPP

NNPP has reacted to Obasanjo’s endorsement of Peter Obi.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Adamawa State chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Phineas Elisha, has slammed former President Olusegun Obasanjo for endorsing the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.

This online media platform gathered that former president Olusegun Obasanjo, Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, and prominent South-South leader Chief Edwin Clark had recently endorsed the presidential ambition of the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

The endorsements, which were done separately, have continued to attract mixed reactions from Nigerians and political stakeholders in the country.

Reacting during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday, Elisha stated that the NNPP’s presidential flagbearer Rabiu Kwankwaso does not need such endorsement.

While rubbishing the various endorsement of Peter Obi’s presidential ambition, the NNPP claimed that Kwankwaso’s credentials set him apart from other candidates.

He said: “We don’t require any endorsement. Our presidential candidate (Kwankwaso) does not require any endorsement because he knows where he is coming from. I stated it earlier on: he did very well as Kano governor.”

He faulted Obasanjo’s endorsement of the former Anambra state governor and described it as “intimidation,” adding that the move is a violation of the law.

“That his endorsement is intimidation. A former president endorsing a presidential candidate is intimidation. That violates the Electoral Act,” the NNPP chieftain added.
