Peter Obi Opens Up On How He Paid SARS To Harass Innocent Youths
Former Vice-Presidential candidate under the People’s Democratic Party, Peter Obi has denied threatening the Anambra State people using SARS operatives.
Obi said he only sponsored operational vehicles and logistics SARS operators, but never equipped them to harass people.
In response to an accusation that it had armed SARS operatives to threaten people of Anambra State, the former Vice President Candidate made the explanation in a series of tweets.
“I am not legally empowered as governor to arm SARS or any Nigerian Police or Army unit, dear @AbdulMahmoud01,” Obi says. According to the government. So, while We weren’t legally entitled to do it, we never purchased guns and munitions for them.
“Only operating vehicles and other logistics have been provided from time to time by them.
“So, I never have armed SARS as Anambra Gov. I have just been operating with security agencies, all of which are federal entities.
During my stay in the office, I was never interested in posting security agents to Anambra State. I have interacted with those who have been posted by the Police Chief or other department heads.
Their agents were supervised by those leading the security agencies. I just tried to protect the state and its people. I have never asked someone outside of the law to negotiate with any person.
“I had to cut my trips abroad, return home, and do what was necessary, including directives on an autopsy for full investigation, when the Ezu River problem arose.
“I can attest to this date, and people who know me well can attest that, for misplaced reasons, I never used a privileged place that I consider to be the Grace of the Almighty God.
“SARS has also not been formed to threaten, bully, ransom, maim or kill people. Now is the time to study and avoid the excesses it now entails”, Peter Obi tweeted.
