EKO HOT BLOG reports that some supporters of the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, were attacked in Surulere, Lagos State, on Wednesday.
The incident occurred after some of the supporters joined the Deputy Governorship candidate of LP, Princess Oyefusi, to campaign at the Aguda Market in Surulere.
According to eyewitnesses, the thugs disrupted the market campaign, and one supporter was stabbed during the fracas. A video circulating on social media showed the injured supporter receiving treatment from a medical team after sustaining a knife wound to his side.
The LP supporters expressed displeasure at how their members are being attacked in Lagos state while the All Progressive Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) can take their campaigns to other states without facing such humiliation.
The LP supporters claimed that the attack was politically motivated and that the thugs were hired to disrupt the campaign. They accused their opponents of using violence and intimidation to suppress their message and prevent them from reaching potential voters.
The police have yet to make any arrests in connection with the attack, but investigations are ongoing. The LP supporters have called for increased security measures to protect their members during the election campaign.
Peter Obi is a former Governor of Anambra State and the LP presidential candidate for the 2023 general elections. The LP is one of several opposition parties challenging the ruling APC in the upcoming polls.
