Peter Obi has wished President Tinubu well after the latter’s fall.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, has discouraged gloating over President Bola Tinubu’s fall at the venue of the 2024 Democracy Day celebration.
The former Anambra governor reacted to the incident in a statement Wednesday evening.
Recall that Tinubu missed his steps and fell while climbing the parade vehicle at the Eagle Square in Abuja on Wednesday.
The president momentarily lost his footing but regained his balance with support from his aide-de-camp (ADC).
The incident sparked a social media frenzy, with some mocking the president.
Reacting in a post on X, Obi said the incident could have happened to anyone, while urging Nigerians to focus on the issues.
He noted that disagreements on governance should not make Nigerians forget their common human frailty.
“I was saddened to learn of President Tinubu’s unfortunate fall today. I wish him well. We achieve nothing by gloating about an accident that could well happen to any of us,” the former presidential candidate wrote on X.
“We are all human beings, and while we profoundly disagree on how to move Nigeria forward, we must remember our common human frailty. Let us stay focused on the issues that will lead to a new Nigeria.
“May this moment serve as a poignant reminder of our shared humanity and the need for compassion, empathy, and unity in our pursuit of a brighter future for our great nation.”
While addressing Nigerians during the national broadcast to mark the 25th anniversary of uninterrupted democracy in Nigeria, Tinubu said his administration is working tirelessly to fix the economy and address rising insecurity.
In an interview with Arise News Wednesday night, Obi blamed the incumbent president for driving up inflation with his policies.
