EKO HOT BLOG reports that Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, made this revelation during an interview on Arise News Prime Time on Tuesday, emphasizing that their partnership is driven by national interest rather than political ambition.
Speaking on their alliance, Obi stated that the focus is on the well-being of Nigerians rather than personal power struggles.
“Elections are won and lost by the votes of the people. All these things people are talking about are because we are not in a democracy. We are working together for the sake of the country. That is why I am not desperate to be President, but I am desperate to see Nigeria work,” he said.
Obi criticized past political alliances, stating that they have often been driven by selfish interests rather than national development.
“These alliances brought Nigeria to where we are today. Instead of focusing on making the country work and productive, people are more concerned about wrestling power. The real question should be: what are we going to use the power to do?” he questioned.
Reflecting on his 2023 presidential bid, Obi reiterated that his goal was to bring a different approach to governance, particularly in the areas of education and healthcare.
“I ran in 2023 because I wanted to do something different. By now, you would have seen changes in education. I would have even visited schools. In the health sector, over 70% of primary healthcare centers are not functional,” he pointed out.
He also expressed concern over Nigeria’s economic situation, particularly the struggles of ordinary citizens.
“So many Nigerians today don’t know where their next meal will come from. The people need to know that leadership can be different, and that’s what we are fighting for,” Obi added.
Addressing Nigeria’s economic crisis, Obi explained that the devaluation of the naira is not necessarily a problem, but the country’s lack of productivity is worsening its impact.
“You talk about the devaluation of the naira; there is nothing wrong with it. I would have allowed the naira to fluctuate, but there must be productivity,” he stated.
He also criticized Nigeria’s high-interest rates, arguing that they hinder economic growth.

“How can businesses survive when the interest rate is over 40%? Nobody is producing anything, and that’s a big problem. We need to do the right thing, and we can do it,” he emphasized.
When asked about his political plans for 2027, Obi avoided making a definite statement about his candidacy, stressing that his focus remains on national development.
“I am reluctant to talk about 2027. Yes, I am part of the coalition, but any political alignment must prioritize the future of Nigeria. We need to invest in education and economic reforms, not just seek power. My goal is not to be President at all costs but to see Nigeria work,” he concluded.
