EKO HOT BLOG reports that the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has expressed deep sadness and concern over the escalating wave of bloodshed and killings in several states in Northern Nigeria, including Plateau, Sokoto, Zamfara, and Benue.
In a statement posted on his verified Twitter page on Monday, Obi described the continuous spate of criminality in these four states as profoundly distressing and alarming.
He emphasized that the mounting fatalities were not mere statistics but the tragic loss of precious human lives belonging to individuals who were part of families, relatives, and friends.
While acknowledging the efforts made by governments at all levels and security agencies, Obi called for immediate action to curtail the situation before it deteriorated further.
Expressing his concern, he stated,
“The continued horrible spate of all forms of criminality, especially visceral bloodletting and killings, as witnessed recently in Plateau where over 120 people were killed, 50 killed in Sokoto, 31 in Zamfara, and 25 in Benue, are very depressing and extremely worrisome.”
Peter Obi highlighted the significance of recognizing that these fatalities represent lives lost and families shattered. He implored the authorities to intensify their efforts to address the escalating violence and restore peace to the affected regions.
The former Governor of Anambra State urged governments and security agencies not to allow the nation to slide further into anarchy. He stressed the importance of taking decisive action to protect innocent lives and restore a sense of security and stability to communities that have been ravaged by these tragic events.
In closing, Obi expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost loved ones in these senseless acts of violence. He prayed for the eternal rest of the deceased and called on the nation to unite in the pursuit of peace and justice.
The recent incidents in Plateau, Sokoto, Zamfara, and Benue have seen a significant loss of lives, with over 120 people killed in Plateau state, 50 in Sokoto, 31 in Zamfara, and 35 in Benue, all attributed to various forms of violence, including clashes and attacks by criminal elements.
As the nation grapples with these challenges, leaders and stakeholders are called upon to redouble their efforts in ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens, working towards lasting peace, and providing necessary support to affected communities.
