EKO HOT BLOG reports that the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has been consoled by Nigerian music star, Peter Okoye of P-Square, following his defeat in the just-concluded 2023 presidential election.

In a message shared via his Twitter handle on Wednesday evening, Mr. Peter Okoye urged supporters of Obi and members of the Obidient movement to remain calm and embrace peace, despite rumors of planned protests across the country.

The results of the election, as announced by the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, showed that Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged as the winner with a total of 8,794,726 votes. He defeated his closest rivals and candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, who scored 6,984,520 and 6,101,533 votes respectively.

Many electorates across the country have expressed disbelief and anger over the results released by INEC, which they believe do not reflect what happened at the polling units during the election.

There is also a growing frustration over INEC’s failure to use the Biometric Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and transmit results from the polling units to its portal, as promised.

Despite the uncertainty and unrest, Peter Okoye remained hopeful, assuring Peter Obi and his supporters that their mandate may have been delayed but cannot be denied.

“Dear H.E @PeterObi your mandate can only be delayed, but cannot be denied,” he tweeted. “Please, my fellow obedient, be calm, we live to fight another day, so please embrace peace. Let’s all allow the right people of the law to handle the case. Thank you Nigerians.”
