Tragedy struck in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State on Sunday afternoon when a petrol tanker exploded, leading to the loss of lives and widespread destruction of property.

The tanker, laden with petrol, reportedly lost control while navigating a turn near First Bank along the old Lagos/Asaba road, overturning and triggering a massive explosion.

Eyewitnesses recounted the chaotic scene as flames engulfed the area, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake.

One eyewitness described the situation as “devastating,” adding that the inferno continued to rage long after the explosion occurred.

Despite the scale of the disaster, there was an alarming absence of emergency responders at the scene. A witness lamented, “We are yet to see firefighters at the scene. The fire is still burning as I speak to you now.”

The explosion has sparked calls for improved safety measures and quicker emergency responses to avert similar tragedies in the future. Authorities are yet to provide an official statement on the incident or confirm the exact number of casualties.
