Pharmacist shut for 2 hours over non-passage of Bill

The Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria(ACPN), will shut down operations today for two hours in all pharmaceutical outlets in the country over the delay in the passage of the 2017 Pharmacy Bill.

The National Executive Council(NEC) of the association in a communiqué yesterday, noted that NEC is saddened that with barely 25 days to the end of the 8th National Assembly, the bill has not been passed.

The communiqué, signed by the National Chairman and National Secretary of the Association, Adekola Samuel and Abosede Idowu, respectively, said: “Every community pharmacy practitioner in Nigeria will withdraw their services by closing down their pharmacies on Tuesday 7th May, 2019 between 12p.m. and 2p.m. to draw the attention of President Muhammadu Buhari on the need to do the needful in public health interest.

“Each state branch of the Association should commence advocacy through media interactions to further sensitise the Federal Government of Nigeria on the need to uphold good pharmacy practice for the citizenry as it is obtainable globally.

“Pharmacists and other stakeholders be mobilised to Abuja for a peaceful march in support of this patriotic call for immediate assent of Mr. President to the Pharmacy Council Bill 2017.”
