Bower’s Memorial Tower

Bower’s Memorial Tower is located in Oke –Are, area of Ibadan and it was built in 1930. From the top of the tower, one could see at a glance the four corners of Ibadan metropolis. It gives a panoramic view of all the important places in the ancient city.

Mapo Hall

Mapo Hall was commissioned during the colonial era by Captain Ross in 1929.

Agodi Gardens

Agodi Gardens was formerly called Agodi Zoological and Botanical Gardens. It was created in 1967. The garden was destroyed by the Ogunpa flood disaster in 1980 as most of the animals were swept away by the raging water.

Cocoa House

Cocoa House was built in July 30, 1965. It is notable as the first sky scrapper in tropical Africa. It was built by Cappa and D’Alberto company in July 30, 1965.

U.I Zoological Garden

The University of Ibadan Zoological Garden was established in 1948 primarily as Menagerie to support teaching and research in the Department of Zoology.

With time the animal collection grew in number and diversity and the Menagerie gradually became a full fledged Zoo in 1974.

 

National Museum of Unity

The National Museum of Unity, Ibadan was established in 1976 after the Nigerian Civil war upon the pronouncement by General Yakubu Gowon, the then Nigerian Head of State that a Museum of Unity be established in the capital city of each state of the federation.

IITA Forest Reserve

 

The IITA Forest Reserve was founded in 1967 and is located in Ibadan, Nigeria. At our Headquarters we focus on major food staples and horticulture crops of high importance to African farmers.
