Labour Party factional chairman, Lamidi Apapa, being taken away by the police after being mobbed by LP supporters in court

Eko Hot Blog reports that the appearance of Lamidi Apapa, the factional chairman of the Labour Party (LP),  at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal, Abuja, on Wednesday, did not go down well with some supporters of the party.

Upon his arrival at the court on Wednesday, Apapa confronted Akin Osuntokun, the director-general of Peter Obi’s presidential campaign council, over the sitting arrangement.

Then, when it came for time for LP representatives to identify themselves at the tribunal, the party’s national women leader, Mrs Dudu Manuga, announced her appearance as the second party representing LP but while she was speaking, Apapa stood up to identify himself as the chairman of the LP and the party’s representative in court.

However, members of the Julius Abure-led LP resisted him, prompting the police to take him into protective custody after he was mobbed by party supporters in court.

Chants of “ole”, which translates as “thief” in Yoruba, rented the air as Apapa, who has been at the centre of the leadership tussle within the LP, was dragged and pushed out of the court.

At some point, someone in the crowd removed his cap and fled.

Shielded by police officers, the LP factional chairman struggled to get to his car but the crowd kept trailing him.
