EKO HOT BLOG reports that no fewer than five vehicles were razed while passengers were set ablaze following an attack by hoodlums on the Owerri-Umuahia Road in Imo State.
It was gathered that three Hummer buses belonging to Libra and Okey Transport companies, a Sienna, and a Highlander SUV were set ablaze during an attack which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday.
EKO HOT BLOG learnt that scores of the occupants of the commercial vehicles, who were travelling to Lagos and others returning to Imo State from Lagos, escaped with some carrying bullet injuries.
It was further gathered that the drivers of the vehicles were seriously hit by the assailants while the Owerri-Umuahia Road was later deserted by motorists for several hours.
One of the burnt remains of the victims was seen in one of the buses where two persons were said to have died.

An elderly man, Pa Johnson, whose house is opposite the scene, disclosed that the incident occurred around 4:30am, adding that the residents of the area were jolted by the deafening sound of sporadic gunshots.
“The incident happened around 4:30am. The military came here around 11am. This is disturbing; the people were travellers,” the octogenarian said.
As gathered by EKO HOT BLOG, the tragic incident was confirmed by the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Mike Abattam.
