PHOTOS: How Nigerian Male And Female Players Performed Last Week In Europe

  • EKO HOT BLOG is back again with the Sunday version of Super Eagles Player Watch.
  • In this episode, we will review some of the performances of our Nigerian players abroad who turned out for their various club this weekend.

(1) After all his goalscoring efforts for his team throughout this season, Nigerian player, Simy Nwankwo and Crotone have been relegated from the Italian Serie A.

The 28 year old played full time on Saturday as his team lost 2-0 to league leaders and imminent champions Inter Milan.

Simy has 19 Italian league goals this season and he might be playing in the second division next campaign. He was the top scorer of that division with 20 goals last year when Crotone won promotion to the top flight.

(2) On a much brighter note, Paul Onuachu grabbed his 30th goal of the season in Belgium for Genk as they came from behind to win 3-2 on Saturday.

(3) Another red hot giant striker in Europe is Almeria’s Sadiq Umar and he was on target for them twice in their home draw on Saturday. Those goals moved his tally for the season to an impressive 20 goals in Spain.

(4) In the English Premier League, Kelechi Iheanacho provided the assist for his side’s only goal in a 1-1 stalemate with Southampton.

(5) Also in England, Ola Aina and his fellow Nigerian contingent at Fulham fell to a 2-0 defeat to their next door neighbors over at Stamford Bridge. Both him, Josh MajaTosin Adarabioyo and Ademola Lookman all started the match against Chelsea. They now inch closer to relegation with that result.

(6) In Portugal, Zaidu Sanusi put in a good shift for Porto who beat their opponents with a narrow 3-2 score line.

(7) Forgotten Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi was on target for his club (Zalgiris Vilniaus) in Lithuania.

UEFA Europa League

The competition is already down to the final four teams and our interest is in the semi final clash between Arsenal and Villarreal. Samuel Chukwueze (Villarreal) was vital in his side’s first leg victory at home.

He provided the assist for the opening goal and went on to play the full 90 minutes of action.

Super Falcons

(1) Rasheedat Busayo Ajibade featured for Atletico Madrid Women in their goalless draw on Saturday afternoon.

(2) In France, Super Falcons number one goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie kept a clean sheet to help Paris FC to a dominant 4-0 win.
