Eko Hot Blog reports that the Lagos State Government has sealed the Awolowo, Ojuwoye and Daleko markets in Mushin, as well as Odo Asimohu Market in the Itire area of the state.
The Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) made the disclosure in a terse statement on Sunday.
The action is the latest in a series of shutdowns of various markets in the state adjudged to have violated environmental laws.
LAWMA said the latest five closures were for various environmental infractions, vowing not to rest until “sanity is restored to the environment across the state.”
“In the early hours of today, a combined team of LAWMA Monitoring and Compliance, LAGESC and Environmental Task Force sealed Awolowo, Ojuwoye and Daleko markets in Mushin, as well as Odo Asimohu Market, Itire, for various environmental infractions,” the agency said.
“We will not rest on our oars until sanity is restored to the environment across the state. We urge residents and businesses to comply with the environmental laws of the state.”
Jubril Gawat, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on new media, said the markets were sealed for breaching the provisions of the 2017 environmental management protection law.
