In 1999, when the construction of the 50,000 capacity auditorium, Faith Tabernacle, was to begin, the foreign construction companies which were consulted, labelled the project as unworkable and stated that it had to take 3 years to complete.
Thus, a Nigerian structural engineer, Engineer Ike Chukwuneke, was responsible for the design of Faith Tabernacle.
Apparently history has repeated itself, as the Architect who is responsible for the design of the 100,000 capacity Ark project, is a Nigerian, named Gbenga Alalade Johnson.
Interestingly, Architect Gbenga Alalade Johnson schooled in the church-owned University, Covenant University, where he obtained his BSc, MSc and PhD in architecture.
It is reported that the said Architect has designed numerous other projects for the church. He is proof that Winners’ Chapel has strong faith in its indigenous talents.
One popular statement which is credited to the founder and president of Winners’ Chapel Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, is that “it does not have to be white, to be right.” The actions of the church are consistent with this statement, as we see Nigerians being used repeatedly to undertake major projects.
