Eko Hot Blog reports that the a group of five members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), also known as the G5 Governors, were at Aso Rock on Thursday to meet with President Bola Tinubu.
The group includes one serving governor and four former governors within the party. They are Governor Seyi Makinde (Oyo) as well as former Governors Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu).
The current Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah was also present.
All six governors and former governors are members of the PDP who refused to support their party in the 2023 presidential election.
They unsuccessfully pushed for the ouster of the party’s national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, a northerner.
According to the PDP bigwigs, it was unfair for the PDP chairman and the presidential candidate to be northerners.
Eventually, the governors did not support their party’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and most of them backed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who later emerged winner of the presidential contest.
