PHOTOS: Wole Soyinka Performs Burial Rite Of A Member Of His Cult Group

  • According to reports, the deceased was one of the 7 men who formed the first cult group in Nigeria with Wole Soyinka in 1952.

Pictures have emerged online showing Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, leading other members of the National Association of Seadogs otherwise known as Pyrates Confraternity to perform burial rites by the cult group for one of their leading members, Nathaniel Oyelola, in Ibadan, on Friday, 28th May 2021, EKO HOT BLOG  gathered.

Apart from Wole Soyinka and the late Nathaniel Oyelola, other listed founding members were: Ralf Opara, Pius Oleghe, Ikpehare Aig-Imoukhuede, Olumuyiwa Awe, and Sylvanus U. Egbuche, who were all students of the prestigious University of Ibadan, Oyo State, where the confraternity was formed.

The group which is headed by Wole Soyinka was, reportedly, formed with the sole aim of supporting human rights and social justice in Nigeria, which unfortunately may not still be the creed of the new generation members of the group who seemed to follow the way of other cult groups which were later formed, with no noble intentions like the founding fathers of the Pyrates Confraternity.

Meanwhile, one of the 7 friends who formed the group who are known as The Magnificent Seven, was Nathaniel Oyelola, who just passed on. And other surviving members, including their leader, Wole Soyinka, did not have any choice other than to perform burial rites for him in their way, as final respect.

Certainly, family members of the deceased were aware of their late father’s confraternity membership and allowed his surviving colleagues to bid him their last respect before his remains would be committed to mother earth.

That explains why family members dressed in all back are also spotted in the pictures with the Pyrates Confraternity members who were in their trademark red jacket while performing the burial rites.
