Eko Hot Blog reports that Kano Pillars Handball Club coach, Solomon Yola, emphasizes the need for his players to enhance their goal-scoring prowess to stand a chance at clinching the league title from rivals, Niger United, in the Ardova Handball Premier League.
Last year, Pillars failed to defend their title, finishing fourth, primarily due to their subpar scoring performance in both phases of the league.
Additionally, they unexpectedly lost several matches they were expected to win, a departure from their usual form.
Yet, Yola, a former international player, expressed confidence, stating that the team had diligently focused on improving their goal-scoring abilities.
He further affirmed that the players are fully prepared for the upcoming first phase of the league, scheduled to take place in Benin City, Edo State, from May 13 to 24.
He said, “With the level we are so far in camp, I can say confidently say that we are almost ready for the upcoming first phase of the 2024 Ardova Handball Premier League.
“I have told the players that we need to improve more on our goal scoring rate as we lost many scoring chances in 2023.
“We were not impressive last year due to the exit of some of our top players.
“The team utilised the players available and we finished fourth but this time.
“I want to assure you that we will definitely start the season positively.”
Yola noted that the club has received substantial moral backing from the residents of Kano as they gear up for the commencement of the league.
