Pinnick Pleads FG Support For His Bid In FIFA’s Council Membership

Eko Hot Blog reports that Amaju Melvin Pinnick, the ex-President of the Nigeria Football Federation, has appealed to the Federal Government for assistance as his initial term on the FIFA Council concludes, and aims to secure re-election in the upcoming May 2024 elections.

The former Nigeria Football Federation President, who served two terms, formally reached out to the Honourable Minister of Sports, Senator John Owan Enoh.
He solicits Federal Government backing in his bid to maintain his position on the FIFA Council.
The letter leaked to BSN Sports, dated 4th April, 2024 and titled:
“Request For Federal Government Support For Amaju Melvin Pinnick Quest To Retain His Seat As FIFA Council Member”, reads:
“We heartily present to Honourable Minister very warm sporting regards of the Member of the Executive Committee and management of Nigeria Football Federation.
“The purpose of this letter is to bring to the attention of the Honourable Minister the forthcoming election into FIFA Council.
The election will take place on the margin of the FIFA Congress holding in Bangkok Thailand on 31st May, 2024.”
The letter continues: “At the said congress our own Amaju Melvin Pinnick, one of the 37 privileged Member FIFA Council who determines the swing of world football will be due for re-election.
“Honorable Minister Sir, membership of FIFA Council confers considerably prestige and honour on any country.
“Most Nations of the world including those who are rated low in world football see FIFA Council Member as of high importance and would go to any length to have their citizen in the prestigious Council.”
In another letter made available to www.bsnsports.com.ng, dated 18th April, 2024.
Signed by Pinnick and written to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Maitama with the title:
“Request For Support For My Quest To Retain Seat As A Member of The FIFA Council.”
Pinnick, in his plea to the Minister, emphasized the significance of retaining the seat.
He urged him to leverage his networks both domestically and internationally to aid in securing the esteemed position.

In March 2021 Caf General Assembly in Rabat, Pinnick secured victory over Malawian FA president Walter Nyamilandu with a commanding lead of 43 votes to eight.
