  • Onibon was previously the acting provost of the former Michael Otedola College of Primary Education.
  • He became the substantive provost after one year of acting as the institution’s chief executive.
  • Three years later, he was appointed as the acting vice chancellor of the newly created Lagos University of Education.

Eko Hot Blog reports that Associate Professor Nosiru Olajide Onibon has bowed out as the Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University of Education (LASUED).

He left the position more than a year after he assumed office. He was appointed to the position in March 2022.

Before Ass. Prof. Onibon became the LASUED DVC, he was the provost of the Michael Otedola College of Primary Education (MOCPED), which the Lagos State Government converted to LASUED in February 2022.

In a statement shared with Eko Hot Blog on Friday, the academic said he was grateful that his tenure ended well.

He also spoke about the success of his quest to convert MOCPED, a college, to LASUED, a university.

“On assumption of office first as an Ag. Provost of the Michael Otedola College of Primary Education (MOCPED) on the 2nd of January 2018 and second as the 5th substantive Provost on the 8th of January 2019, the most attractive issue on my table was the quest to turn the College to a University,” Prof. Onibon wrote.

“This, I pursued with vigour, including submission of a proposal that might end complete dependence on Government for survival.

“On the 2nd of February 2022, MOCPED eventually became part of the Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) and I was graciously appointed the ONLY Ag. Deputy Vice Chancellor.

“I physically thanked the erstwhile SAE, Tokunbo Wahab, in his office for the FREE offer to serve.”

The ex-LASUED DVC further listed the positions where he served, among others, as:

1. A member of the State Technical Committee that birthed the two new Universities, LASUED and LASUSTECH;

2. A member of the LASUED Joint Campus Technical Committee for the successful take-off of the University;

3. Chairman, Staff Right Placement Committee of LASUED to place the College Staff on the University Staff status;

4. Chairman, Foundational Documents Drafting Committee to draft the Conditions of Service (Senior and Junior), Career Structures (Academic, Junior & Senior Non-teaching), and the Students Handbook;

5. Chairman, NUC Resource Verification Committee that orchestrated the approval, by the NUC, of the University Academic Programmes, and

6. Chairman, Central Admission Committee for the admission of the first set of University students.

Prof. Onibon, while thanking God for the gift of life, health, and knowledge, appreciated Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the LASUED leadership for the opportunity to serve.

“I profoundly thank the almighty Allah (SWT) for His gift of life, health, knowledge, wisdom and courage,” he said.

“I appreciate the Governor, Mr. ‘Jide SANWO-OLU, for my appointment and the leadership of the University, led by the SAE, for the opportunity given to serve.

“I learnt, during the period, another dimension in Administrative and Political/Relational leadership. I congratulate and wish the TWO new Acting Deputy Vice Chancellors a successful tenure in office.”
