First Citizen Into Space
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Federal Government of Nigeria has announced plans to send its first citizen to space, marking a historic leap for the nation.
Dr. Mathew Adepoju, the Director General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), unveiled this groundbreaking development during a press conference held in Abuja on Wednesday.
Dr. Adepoju disclosed that the Federal Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Space Exploration and Research Agency (SERA) to facilitate this ambitious venture. He emphasized that this move will propel Nigeria into the ranks of nations actively participating in human spaceflight.
“This collaboration marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s 25th anniversary of space exploration and opens new opportunities for scientific research and technological advancement,” Dr. Adepoju stated.
He added that the initiative is expected to foster technological advancements and stimulate interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields among young Nigerians. According to him, it aligns with NASRDA’s long-term goals of leveraging space technology for national development and global competitiveness.

Dr. Adepoju assured that the project would be executed with the highest standards of safety and professionalism, drawing on international expertise and best practices. This mission is seen as a key step in Nigeria’s continued efforts to establish a robust presence in the global space community.
