A plane carrying 48 people skidded off the runway in Indonesia’s remote Papua region on Monday, injuring several passengers, according to local police.
The ATR-42 aircraft, operated by Trigana Air, was attempting to take off from an airport in the Yapen Islands en route to the Papuan capital, Jayapura, when the incident occurred.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the flight had 42 passengers, including a baby, and six crew members on board.
“Praise God, everyone survived and has been taken to the hospital for a health checkup,” said local police chief Ardyan Ukie Hercahyo in a statement.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the incident and are working with relevant parties to prevent a recurrence.
The local search and rescue agency reported that some passengers sustained injuries and were left traumatised by the experience.
Indonesia, a country heavily reliant on air travel to connect its thousands of islands, faces significant aviation challenges, particularly in Papua due to its mountainous terrain and frequently poor weather conditions.
