Plateau State Government issues urgent plea for blood donations to aid victims of the recent school building collapse in Jos, emphasizing critical need amidst widespread injuries.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Plateau State Government urgently appeals for blood donations to aid victims of the recent tragic school building collapse in Jos. State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Musa Ashom, issued the plea through a statement on Friday evening.
The collapse at Saints Academy during an examination session resulted in numerous student injuries, sparking an immediate demand for medical supplies, particularly blood donations.
The state government’s appeal has been broadcast extensively on state-owned radio and television stations, urging all able-bodied individuals to contribute to the life-saving efforts.
“Given the scale of the tragedy and the number of injured, there is a critical need for blood to treat the victims,” Commissioner Ashom stated.
Plateau Specialists Hospital, where many of the injured are receiving treatment, has become the primary location for the donation campaign.
The statement reads, “As a result of the immense casualties from the collapse of a school building in the Busa Buji area of Jos North Local Government Area, the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Communication Plateau State, Ibrahim Musa Ashoms, is appealing to the sense of humanity of members of the public to donate blood at major and government hospitals in the city.
“This is to meet the overwhelming need of victims of the collapse and save lives of mainly schoolchildren. This emergency situation requires emergency aid from citizens”.
As of the time of filing this report, the rescue operations by NEMA, SEMA, FRSC, and Federal and state fire services were still ongoing at the site of the collapsed building.
