Plateau Killings: Lagos Govt Evacuates Students, Indigenes From Jos

  • The Lagos State Government has evacuated students and indigenes of the state from Jos.

EKOHOTBLOG reports that the Lagos State Government has evacuated students and indigenes of the state, who were stranded in Jos, the Plateau State capital.

The state government, EKOHOTBLOG reports, had received emergency calls from the students who said they were stranded after some gunmen killed 36 people in Yelwa Zangam community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

However, the evacuees, who are Lagos indigenes schooling at the University of Jos (UNIJOS), arrived in Lagos on Friday before they were brought to the State House, Alausa, Ikeja.

They were received by the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Mr. Adeniran Kasali.

Speaking, Omotoso said the evacuation had shown that the Lagos State Government has the ability and capacity to respond to any emergency especially when it concerns the people of the state.

He further enjoined the evacuees to always be good ambassadors of their families and government as he urged them to observe COVID-19 safety protocols in their routine.

The commissioner, who expressed appreciation to God that no students lost their lives in the incident as they returned to Lagos in peace, added that welfare packages had been arranged for them to return to their families.

Also speaking, the representatives of the students thanked the Lagos State Government for evacuating the students, adding that they had been experiencing tense situations and sleepless nights since the tragic killings in Plateau State.

The students, therefore, urged the state government not to relent in its efforts to rescue others who were still stranded in UNIJOS.
