EKO HOT BLOG reports that former Arsenal striker and legend, Ian Wright, has advised Chelsea interim manager, Frank Lampard, to recall Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the club’s underperforming striker, to the squad. The Blues have struggled to find the back of the net in recent games and currently sit 11th in the Premier League standings.
After suffering a 1-0 defeat to Wolves on Saturday, Chelsea’s hopes of qualifying for the Champions League next season look slim, with just eight more league games to go. The club’s only chance of qualifying for the competition is by beating Real Madrid in the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Wednesday.
Aubameyang was omitted from the Champions League squad by Brighton & Hove Albion manager Graham Potter. However, Wright believes that Lampard should recall the striker for league games.
“The last time Lampard was at Chelsea, I remember him liking Aubameyang,” Wright said. “He will score the chances Chelsea are creating right now.”
Wright further stated that Aubameyang’s inclusion in the team, alongside other talented forwards such as Raheem Sterling, Mykola Mudryk, and João Félix, could provide a significant boost to Chelsea’s attack.
“If Chelsea start Aubameyang up front with Sterling or Mudryk or Felix – they’ve got so much to choose from – I swear to God, Chelsea can absolutely cook some teams,” Wright added.
Chelsea’s underwhelming performance in the Premier League this season has been a cause for concern among fans and pundits alike, and it remains to be seen whether Lampard will take Wright’s advice and recall Aubameyang to the squad.
The striker’s poor form this season has been a source of disappointment for Arsenal fans, and it is unclear if he can revive his career at Chelsea if given the chance.
