The Sokoto State Police Command has stated that they are unaware of the reported abduction of over 150 individuals in the state, which allegedly occurred in the Sabon Birni region following the murder of Sarkin Gobir Gatawa, Isa Muhammad Bawa.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that In an interview with Radio France International (RFI) Hausa on Saturday, Professor Bello Bada from Usman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto, claimed that the kidnappings happened between the late Emir’s death and the previous Friday, attributing the rise in banditry to multiple factors.
He also noted that while attacks on prominent leaders are not new, this is the first time an Emir has been killed so violently.
However, the spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, ASP Ahmed Rufai, informed *Daily Trust* via telephone that the police are unaware of the reported abductions.
He explained that the police can only verify incidents that have been officially reported, and in this case, no such report has been made, leaving them without any information on the matter.
Nevertheless, he acknowledged that the Sabon Birni area and other regions within the Sokoto East Senatorial district are experiencing significant security challenges, with many residents feeling threatened and hesitant to report incidents to law enforcement agencies.
