The statement noted, “The principal suspect, Bristol Isaac Tamunobifiri, was arrested by NPF-NCCC detectives on Saturday, 5th August 2024, at a hotel in Port Harcourt. During the arrest, the suspect attempted to resist by locking himself in a hotel room, smashing his phone, and flushing it down the toilet to destroy evidence.
“He also refused to provide his phone’s password, claiming he had forgotten it, thereby withholding information. Further investigations following his arrest uncovered several suspicious interactions between the principal suspect and his alleged accomplices.

“Investigations also revealed that the suspect was responsible for leaking a sensitive, restricted document from the office of the President to the Secretary of the Government of the Federation. Additionally, the suspect illegally accessed police-restricted data and posted directives from the office of the Inspector-General of Police, along with other restricted documents, with the intent to undermine Nigeria’s security network.
“It was further established that the suspect raised funds anonymously to support cyberterrorism and related crimes, with evidence obtained from a forensic analysis of his crypto wallet transactions.”
Earlier, the police charged Bristol with money laundering, cybercrime, and unlawfully obtaining, retaining, and disseminating classified official documents.
Bristol, who faced nine charges before Justice Emeka Nwite at the Federal High Court in Abuja, pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Following his plea, Justice Nwite adjourned the case to September 23, 2024, for the ruling on the bail application filed on behalf of the defendant. The judge also ordered the defendant’s remand at the Kuje Correctional Centre.
