Eko Hot Blog reports that the Bayelsa State Police Command has arraigned two suspects, Lucky Oghenebrume and Omobowho Okpowodo, at a Kaima High Court in Yenagoa over alleged conspiracy and attempted kidnapping of Ebi Ayama, brother to Governor Douye Diri.
The two men, aged 53 and 52, were arrested in November 2023 by the Operation Puff Adder unit in Mbiama community, Rivers State. The police said intelligence gathering and investigations led to apprehending the suspects.
Both pleaded not guilty to the charges. The prosecution stated that Oghenebrume was the mastermind and had been wanted for the previous abduction of one Fyneman in Sagbama where N50 million ransom was paid.
He allegedly relocated his family to Delta State and was residing alone in Mbiama where he committed the acts. Okpowodo was identified as owning the mechanic workshop where the targeted victim, Ayama, repairs his vehicles.
According to the police counsel, Okpowodo was overheard planning the abduction of Ayama on his return from Ekeremor LGA.
The two accused have been charged and arraigned at the Kaima High Court in Yenagoa under suit number BYH/KHC/CR/2/2024. Police investigations are ongoing.
