According to the prosecution, the defendants knowingly submitted the forged document to the Bank of Industry, intending for it to be accepted as genuine, ultimately causing harm to Ngozi Braide.

The charges against Chinwe Onuoha and Eihcrim Nigeria Limited allege that they submitted forged documents to the Bank of Industry as part of a fraudulent scheme to obtain a loan.

The defendants are charged with violating Sections 516, 465, and 467 of the Criminal Code Cap. C38, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

The seven-count charges read:” That you, Chinwe Onuoha, Eihchrim Nigeria Limited and others at large sometime in 2020 within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did make forged writing to wit:

the signature of Titilayo Opeyemi in the document titled “Lease Agreement” dated 12th February 2018, knowing the signature to be false with intent that it may be used or acted upon as genuine by Bank of Industry to the prejudice of Ngozi Braide”.

In response to the charges brought against them, Chinwe Onuoha and Eihcrim Nigeria Limited pleaded not guilty.

Following their plea, police prosecutor Emmanuel Jackson requested that the court proceed to trial and asked for the defendants to be remanded to a correctional facility until the case concludes.

Defence counsel Ikechukwu Chiaha argued for the court to hear the defendants’ bail application, stressing the importance of allowing Onuoha the opportunity to prepare an adequate defense.

After considering the arguments from both sides, Justice Hakeem Oshodi adjourned the matter until February 25 to review the bail application.
