Police Arrest 149 Criminal Suspects

The police in Kano state have arrested 149 suspects for various criminal offences.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the Police spokesman Haruna Kiyawa, speaking on behalf of the commissioner of police, Salman Garba, announced that the arrests were made within the first 10 days of Garba assuming office in Kano.

“The police commissioner’s led operations in troubled spots led to the arrest of 149 suspects,” Kiyawa said.

Among those arrested are 106 thugs, 25 armed robbers, two kidnappers, three drug dealers, three motor vehicle thieves, two motorcycle thieves, and eight local thieves.

“Arms, dangerous weapons, large quantities of illicit drugs, motor vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles were recovered,” police said.

The recovered items included two motor vehicles, a pump-action rifle, five tricycles, eight motorcycles, 58 knives, cutlasses, pointed rods, three bow arrows, 87 parcels of Indian Hemp, 104 packets, and 944 pieces of Red Sun Rubber Solutions.

The suspects and the recovered items were paraded on Thursday, July 4.

In addition to intensifying patrols in the affected areas, the police command has deployed additional personnel and increased collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including community leaders, youth groups, and other security agencies, to gather intelligence and enhance response capabilities, Kiyawa, a Superintendent of Police (SP), said.

“This coordinated approach is essential to effectively combat the root causes of the violence and prevent future incidents from occurring.

“The suspects will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation,” he added.
