EKO HOT BLOG reports that four known arms traffickers have been apprehended by the Force Intelligence Bureau Intelligence Response Team, FIB-IRT, in Jos, Plateau State’s capital.
The suspects were found with many deadly ammunitions, including 57 AK47 rifles and a big stockpile, according to a statement released by the Force spokesman, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the incident follows IGP Usman Alkali Baba’s recent plea to the Nigeria Police Force’s troops to be fearless in the fight against crime and criminality in the country.
Abubakar Muhammed (aka Fancy) is 22 years old, Hamza Zakari (as Hamzo) is 20 years old, Umar Ibrahim is 25 years old, and Muhammed Abdulkarim (called Dan-Asabe) is 37 years old, according to the spokesman.
He claimed they were apprehended after credible information about their criminal operations in Jos and its vicinity surfaced.
The suspects have been identified as one of the primary links for the supply of weaponry and ammunition to criminal elements terrorizing the State and other parts of the country, having admitted to their involvement in arms deals and other illegal acts.
Their collaborators are being pursued by the investigating team, and they are closing in on them.
According to the statement, FIB-IRT operatives destroyed and detained three alleged gun traffickers in Taraba State’s Ibi LGA after receiving a tip.
The suspects, Bello Sani, Venab Puncat and Yusuf Nahoda, all of Ibi Local Government Area of Taraba, during interrogation were said to have confessed to purchasing one AK47 rifle, and one SMG rifle at the cost of Nine Hundred Thousand Naira (#900,000).
