Police Arrest Lady Accused Of Selling 4-Yr-Old Sister For N150,000

The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old lady for allegedly selling her four-year-old younger sister.

The Nation gathered that the suspect, Peace Mathias, sold her sister to an alleged notorious human trafficker, Mrs Ebubechukwu Opara, in Abakaliki for N150,000.

The Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Garba, made the disclosure while reuniting the trafficked child with her parents at the Command Headquarters in Abakaliki.

According to Garba, Mathias, who hails from Ezza North Local Government Area, Ebonyi State is the first child of her parents while Opara, the buyer of the girl, claimed she was a mother of three girls from Onitcha Local Government Area and needed to adopt a son.

The Nation gathered that the duo was arrested at a popular mass transit parks on Afikpo Road in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, following a disagreement between the two suspects.

CP Garba explained that the deal was busted when Peace showed up with a baby girl to the disappointment of the trafficker who was expecting a baby boy.

In an interview with journalists, Mathias denied selling her sister, saying that she only wanted to set the trafficker up.

But reacting to Mathias’ claim, the suspected trafficker, Opara, alleged that she discussed with Mathias about adopting a male child, not knowing that she was going to bring her baby sister.

Mathias’ parents, Mr Mathias Nweke and his wife, who were at the police command to take their baby back home, commended the police for their efforts and called for the prosecution of their daughter.

CP Garba further revealed that 28 underage children trafficked in and out of Ebonyi State had been rescued by men of the command.

He said that out of the number, 26 had been reunited with their family members while two, whose names were given as Chidera Dimkpa and Samaila Voto, were still in police custody because their parents could not be traced.
