The victims, 55 year old Chinyere Anaene, a caregiver and school nurse at Clear Hope Foundation Academy, and 14 month old Nanenter Asher Yese were reported missing on July 23, 2025.
According to CP Ajao, Anaene’s husband received a ransom call that same day, demanding 250 million naira for the safe return of his wife and the child.
The FCT Police immediately launched a tracking operation through its Anti Kidnapping Unit, which led investigators to Yelwa and Uke villages in Nasarawa State. Further intelligence revealed a shocking betrayal from within the school community.
“David Moses, a security guard who was initially seen as a potential victim, was arrested on July 29. During interrogation, he confessed to conspiring with his best friend, Sunday Irimiya, who is currently on the run,” Ajao revealed.
According to the confession, the suspects lured Anaene into the school bathroom where Irimiya was hiding. They struck her on the head and strangled her to death. Moses then proceeded to a classroom, picked up the toddler, and also strangled the child.

Both bodies were stuffed into a sack, transported from the school compound using a scavenger’s cart, and later dumped in a canal.
Despite the murders, the suspects continued to demand ransom from Anaene’s family, lowering the amount to 3 million naira and pretending the victims were still alive.
Their alliance fell apart over how to split the money. Irimiya allegedly stabbed Moses in an attempt to kill him and flee with the cash. Moses, wounded, fled and encountered police operatives during their combing operation, leading to his arrest.
“He eventually led us to the location where the decomposing remains of the victims were found,” CP Ajao stated.
In addition to Moses, the police have arrested the school principal, two other security guards who were supposed to be on duty, and the Chief Security Officer of the private security company that deployed them.
“This tragedy painfully underscores the urgent need for schools to thoroughly screen all security personnel, in partnership with the Nigeria Police Force,” Ajao said.
He offered condolences to the bereaved families, assuring them that justice will be served.
“We understand the depth of your loss and pain. The police command stands with you and remains committed to holding all those involved accountable,” he said.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect, Sunday Irimiya. The police have urged residents of Abuja and nearby communities to remain alert and report any suspicious individuals or activities.
David Moses has reportedly confessed to strangling both victims with a rope.
The school owner, principal, and Chief Security Officer of the security firm are all currently in police custody as investigations continue.
