Police Arrest Two For Abducting, Gang-Raping 14-Year-Old Girl In Rivers

Police in Rivers State have arrested and detained a man known only as Honest, who is in his late twenties, at the Egi Divisional Police headquarters in Obite, Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) of Rivers State.

Honest is accused of conspiring with his brother, Okwukwe, to abduct and gang-rape a fourteen-year-old girl (name withheld) from dusk until dawn in the Erima community within the same Local Government Area.

A local source told newsmen that the brothers allegedly kidnapped the teenage girl on the evening of Sunday, August 25, 2024, while she was walking alone on a secluded path on her way to her brother’s house in the community.

The Second-in-Command of the local Vigilante, known as ONELGA Security Planning and Advisory Committee (OSPAC), Egi Command, ONELGA, Onuigba Chinonye Aboy from Erima community in an interview with Journalists said “I was on patrol with some of my boys when we met one woman crying that since on Sunday evening, her 14-year-old girl had been missing.

“I now asked the woman which area, she now directed us. We began an investigation. Through some good neighbours too, we tried to find out where the little girl was.

“When we went into the place, we saw two brothers, senior and junior raping the little girl of 14 year old. In the process of trying to arrest them, the senior one tried to fight us. In process of arresting him, his younger one managed to escape. We now apprehended the senior one and handed him over to Egi Police Division in Obite on Monday evening.”

When reached for comment, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, confirmed the incident.

She stated that one suspect has been apprehended, while the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, has ordered the transfer of the suspect and the case file to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Port Harcourt.

The CP also directed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to ensure the arrest of the remaining suspect, emphasizing that all criminals will face the consequences of their actions. The arrested suspect has already been transferred to SCIID, Port Harcourt.
