The police in Ekiti State have apprehended four suspects in connection with alleged murders, cult activities, illegal possession of drugs and acts capable of causing a breach of public peace.
Police Commissioner, Mr Asuquo Amba, said in Ado Ekiti on Monday that the suspects were arrested in different locations in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, and Oye Ekiti.
Amba said that one of the suspects, 33-year-old Babalola Kazeem, who he described as a member of the Supreme Eiye Confraternity was arrested in Ado Ekiti over alleged involvement, “in the killing of one Soji at Orita Blessing area, Okeila, Ado Ekiti, sometime in December 2018 and Tope Gana at Atikankan area, Ado Ekiti in January, 2019”.
According to him, “Kazeem belongs to the group of armed men who shot at one Adebayo Adeola at Yahooze Barbing Shop at Okeila, Ado Ekiti in 2018”.
He added that the suspect also on May 28, 2019 attacked a woman who he believed had evidence against him. He “stripped her naked and damaged her Itel phone in order to destroy evidence of his criminal antecedents, said the Police commissioner.
Amba said that two other suspects; a university student, Richard, and an artisan, Kayode, who were members of the Aiye Confraternity were arrested at Oye Ekiti in the Oye Council area of the state for alleged “conspiracy, cultism and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace”.
The police boss, who said the police were still on the manhunt for the fleeing members of the cult group said, “The two suspects were searched and a bag containing two UTC axes were recovered”.
According to him, a 27-year-old man, Kayode Ayeni, has also been arrested over possession of substance suspected to be cocaine and cannabis.
He said that a combined team of Rapid Respond Squad arrested Ayeni on June 4, 2019 during a raid on a criminal hideout at Oke Bola Street, Ado-Ekiti.
Amba, who said that investigations were going on in all the cases to apprehend others connected to the crimes, said the suspects would be charged to court on completion of the investigations.
