Eko Hot Blog reports that the Zone 2 Command of the Nigeria Police Force has initiated the trial of three police officers following the circulation of a video online wherein they were seen demanding a tinted glass permit from a motorist.
This information was disclosed by the command’s spokesperson, SP Ayuba Umma, in a statement released on Thursday.
The officers in question, namely ASP Kenedy Ereoah, Inspector Ademiluyi Adekunle, and Inspector Ayo Gbenga, all serving in the Zonal Intelligence Bureau at Zone 2 Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos, were identified and found to be on official duty but were deemed to have acted unprofessionally.
In the statement, SP Ayuba Umma clarified the circumstances, stating, “Contrary to the claim that they were kidnappers, they were headed on official duty but acted unprofessionally. Meanwhile, the officers have been defaulted and are presently being tried for flouting the IGP’s directive on tinted permit.”
The Nigeria Police Force had previously acknowledged the incident, with the Force Police Public Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirming the identification of the officers and their attachment to Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos State.
As part of a commitment to transparency, the command has invited the affected member of the public to come forward and contact the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer via GSM No. 08100025614 for further action.
The Assistant Inspector General (AIG) urged calm among the residents of Lagos and Ogun States, reassuring them of the safety and security of lives and properties as they go about their lawful businesses.
This development underscores the authorities’ commitment to upholding professionalism within the police force and addressing instances of misconduct promptly.
