Eko Hot Blog reports that the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has expressed concern over the negative narratives and deep-seated resentment towards security officers in Nigeria, attributing it as a major factor hindering the country’s security efforts.
Speaking during the committee’s 40th celebration ceremony in Abeokuta, the PCRC National Chairman, Mogaji Olaniyan, lamented that the false narratives Nigerian parents create about police officers are alarming and contributing to the widespread hatred.
Olaniyan condemned this trend, emphasizing the need to cultivate a healthy relationship between the people and the police to enhance national security. He stressed that the PCRC is working to foster a permanent relationship between members of the community and the police to address this ugly narrative.
“We are calling that people should love the Nigeria Police, this is what they lack right from childhood we have created enmity between our children and the Nigeria Police,” Olaniyan said. “This hatred starts from our home. For instance, if parents want to scold their children, they will say ‘I will call the police for you.’ This is why our children grow up with hatred for the police, and that is why we are trying to stop this narrative.”
The PCRC chairman further called for urgent action to address the widespread hatred toward Nigeria Police officers, stating that it remains a significant factor affecting the country’s security.
By highlighting the negative impact of these narratives, the PCRC aims to raise awareness and encourage a shift in societal perceptions towards security personnel. The committee believes that fostering positive relationships between communities and the police is crucial for effective law enforcement and maintaining national security.
