The Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr Hafiz Inuwa, has confirmed the abduction of the Chairman of Warri North Local Government Area, Mr Aduge Okorodudu, by gunmen.
The CP, in a text message to PUNCH Metro, said the police command was doing everything possible to rescue the council boss.
The gunmen had waylaid the council chairman’s vehicle around 8.25 pm on Saturday along Mabiaku-Ajamimogha link road in the Warri Government Reserved Area.
Okorodudu’s driver, sources said, sustained severe gunshot injuries and was rushed to a nearby police station, where the incident was documented.
He was later taken to a hospital for treatment.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the fleeing gunmen, after the operation, headed for Ovwian in the Udu LGA, while officers and men of the Nigeria Police, in collaboration with the Udu Central Vigilante, went on their trail.
A source said the council chairman and his driver were the only occupants of the vehicle when the incident occurred.
“They were returning from a function when the incident took place”, he added.
