The Edo State Police Command has detained activist and Obidient movement member, Precious Oruche, popularly known as Mama P, following her recent clash with former Labour Party (LP) National Chairman, Julius Abure.
The Interim National Coordinator of Obidient Movement Worldwide, Yunusa Tanko, confirmed the development on Saturday, raising concerns over her detention at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters, off Sapele Road in Benin City.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Tanko, in a post on X, called for urgent legal intervention and solidarity from members, lawyers, and civil society groups. “Mama P is being detained at the State CID. I have spoken to our legal director to deploy lawyers to secure her release. We want more people to come forward for her rescue. Everyone’s support is needed now,” he wrote.
The detention comes amid controversy surrounding an alleged attack on Abure at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, which escalated upon arrival in Benin. A viral video showed security operatives intervening as some men attempted to drag Oruche at the airport exit.
In another video, Oruche accused Abure of orchestrating the incident. She alleged that thugs loyal to him attacked her, hitting her in the eye and threatening to shoot.
“I saw Julius Abure inside the Max Air flight. I told him he is destroying the lives of Nigerians and sold Labour Party. Then he called his thugs to wait for me in Benin,” she claimed.
The police have yet to issue an official statement on her detention as calls for her immediate release continue to mount.
